Adrián Rubalcava Appointed New Metro Director

Adrián Rubalcava Suárez, a capital politician born on January 29, 1977, has been appointed as the new general director of the Collective Transport System (STC) Metro, replacing Guillermo Calderón. Rubalcava holds a law degree from Anáhuac University and a master's degree in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP). He has held various positions within the public administration of Mexico City throughout his career.

During his career, he has served as a local deputy in the Legislative Assembly of the Federal District and governed the Cuajimalpa de Morelos municipality for two terms, always under the PRI banner. In November 2023, he resigned from the PRI after showing interest in the candidacy of the opposition coalition for the Head of Government of Mexico City, a position for which he was not elected. Subsequently, he joined the political environment of Claudia Sheinbaum, the current president of the Republic, and began his affiliation with the Morena party.

Rubalcava has stood out not only for his political career but also for his brief romantic relationship with Sandra Cuevas, the mayor of Cuauhtémoc, during the capital's pre-campaign. The relationship between Rubalcava and Cuevas was disclosed on social media, though it ended shortly after. With Rubalcava's appointment to the STC Metro, he joins a growing list of former members of the PRI and PAN who have transitioned to Morena, which could have implications for the political realignment ahead of the 2027 midterm elections.
